If you are shopping for an engagement ring in Bangkok, you are in the right city and probably looking in the wrong buildings. I say that with respect to the malls, which are beautiful. But you do not need beautiful. You need the right ring at the right price, and those are found where the trade actually operates.
Your three options in Bangkok
The luxury malls. Siam Paragon, ICONSIAM, EmQuartier. International brands at international prices, sometimes higher than back home once import duty is baked in. You are paying for the name and the marble.
Thai retail chains. Solid gold trade, decent service, but engagement diamonds are not their core business and the certified stone selection reflects it.
The trade buildings on Silom. This is where I work, at the Jewelry Trade Center. Wholesale dealers, cutters and independent workshops. No storefront theatre, real pricing, and the widest certified stone selection in the country because this is where the stones actually trade.
The price difference, honestly
For the same certified specs, the gap between branded mall retail and factory direct is typically 50 to 80 percent. That is not a discount. It is the absence of costs that were never about your ring: brand premium, flagship rent, sales commissions, marketing. I built an interactive markup autopsy that takes a typical ring apart line by line so you can see exactly where the money goes.
Ready-made or custom
At the trade level, the distinction mostly dissolves. Any competent workshop will set your chosen certified stone into any design in about three weeks. That is just how custom engagement rings work here, and it costs factory labor, not a design surcharge. You get a ring designed around your stone and budget instead of compromising on whatever is in stock.
Buying rules that protect you
- Certified stones only, IGI or GIA, and verify the certificate number online yourself.
- Itemized quotes only. One round number means hidden margin.
- Approve a CAD render before production on any custom work.
- Balance due after you see the finished ring, in person or on a QC video.
- Ignore any shop a tuk tuk driver or friendly stranger insists on taking you to. That is a commission scheme, not a recommendation.
Lab-grown, natural, or colored stone
Bangkok is uniquely good for all three. Lab-grown gives maximum stone for the money, covered in my lab diamond ring guide. Natural diamonds are covered in the natural diamond guide. And this city is one of the world's great colored stone markets if she is a sapphire or emerald person.
Whatever direction you are leaning, message me the specs and budget on WhatsApp. I will give you an itemized number to anchor your whole search, and you keep the quote whether or not you buy from me.
Get the honest number
Send me your piece, your specs, or just the idea. Itemized quote, usually the same day. Keep it either way.

Is Bangkok a good place to buy an engagement ring?
One of the best in the world, if you buy at trade level rather than in the luxury malls. Bangkok is a global hub for cutting, trading and manufacturing, so factory direct prices here are far below branded retail abroad.
How much does an engagement ring cost in Bangkok?
The same certified specs typically cost 50 to 80 percent less factory direct than at a branded retailer. The stone and gold weight drive the price; the savings come from removing brand premium and showroom overhead.
Are diamonds cheaper in Bangkok than in the US or UK?
At trade level, generally yes for the same certification, because you are buying closer to the source with fewer margin layers. Mall boutiques, however, charge international retail prices.
How do I avoid engagement ring scams in Bangkok?
Buy certified stones only, verify certificates yourself, demand itemized invoices, never pay in full before seeing the finished ring, and never follow unsolicited recommendations from drivers or street touts.
