Here is the thing nobody at a jewelry counter will tell you: the ring in the case and the ring I make you at the bench come from the same supply chain. Same certified stones, often literally the same casting houses. The difference is what sits on top of the manufacturing cost, and on engagement rings that difference is brutal, because engagement rings are where retailers know you are emotional and price accordingly.
Why go custom for an engagement ring
Three reasons my clients do it:
- Price. Factory direct removes the brand premium and showroom overhead. On a typical ring that is more than half the retail price gone. The markup autopsy shows the line items.
- Fit. Her hand, her style, your stone budget. A custom ring is designed around all three instead of whatever the case happened to hold.
- Certainty. You approve a photoreal CAD render before anything is cast. You know exactly what you are getting before a gram of gold moves.
How my process works
The full custom timeline is on the homepage, but for a ring it looks like this. You send references on WhatsApp and tell me the budget. I suggest stone options, lab-grown or natural, with certificates you can verify. We lock the design in CAD, I cast and set it at JTC, you get a QC video and the certificate, then it ships insured or you collect it here in Bangkok.
Total time is about three weeks. If you are visiting Thailand on holiday, message me before your trip and the timing usually works out so you fly home with the ring.
Choosing the stone: lab-grown or natural
I sell both and I have no horse in the race. Lab-grown gives you a much larger or higher quality stone for the same budget, and I wrote a full guide to lab diamond engagement rings in Bangkok. Natural holds traditional sentiment and I cover it in the natural diamond guide. Either way the stone is certified by IGI or GIA and the certificate number is inscribed on the stone itself.
What a fair quote looks like
An honest engagement ring quote has four visible lines: certified center stone, gold and metalwork by weight, CAD and design, and setting labor. If a quote arrives as one round number, that number has room in it that you cannot see. Every quote I send is itemized, and I tell clients to shop it around. The itemization is the point. It makes every other quote easier to judge.
