Custom Jewelry in Bangkok: How Factory-Direct Actually Works

Most people think custom jewelry is the expensive option. That is backwards, and it is backwards because of where they are shopping. At a branded retailer, custom means a design fee stacked on top of retail margin. At the bench, custom is just how jewelry gets made. Every piece in every display case started as a custom job for somebody.

I am Ansh, a second generation jeweler at the Jewelry Trade Center in Bangkok, and this is what the process actually looks like when you skip the showroom and come straight to the workshop.

Why Bangkok for custom work

This city manufactures jewelry for the world. The casting houses, the setters, the stone dealers and the cutters are all here, often in the same few buildings. When I quote a piece, I am pricing the actual stone, the actual gold weight and the actual hours at the bench. There is no brand premium line because there is no brand premium. You can see exactly how that compares to retail in the markup autopsy.

The process, step by step

My custom timeline runs roughly three weeks door to door:

What custom actually costs here

The honest answer is that it depends on stone and gold weight, because those are most of the cost. What I can tell you is what disappears from the invoice when you go factory direct: the brand premium, the mall rent and the middlemen. On a typical piece those lines are 40 to 60 percent of the retail price. Remove them and the same piece, same certified stones, same karat gold, costs a fraction.

Whether you want an engagement ring, wedding bands, an iced out chain or a rework of family gold, the math works the same way.

Questions to ask any custom jeweler in Bangkok

If you want to test the process, send me your idea on WhatsApp. Worst case, you get a real itemized number to compare everyone else against. Keep the quote either way.

Send me your piece, your specs, or just the idea. Itemized quote, usually the same day. Keep it either way.

FAQ

How long does custom jewelry take in Bangkok?

A typical piece takes about three weeks from deposit to delivery: a few days for CAD and revisions, about a week for wax and casting, then setting, finishing, QC and shipping.

Is custom jewelry cheaper than buying from a brand?

Made factory direct in Bangkok, yes, usually dramatically. You pay for the stone, the metal and the labor without the brand premium, showroom rent and middleman margins that make up much of a retail price.

Can a Bangkok jeweler copy a design I found online?

A skilled workshop can redraw almost any reference in CAD and adapt it to your stone and budget. You approve the render before anything is made.

Do I have to be in Bangkok to order custom jewelry?

No. Most of my clients order remotely over WhatsApp, approve CAD renders and a final QC video, and receive the piece by insured courier with certificates.
